1st4Sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football Course

Introduction to the Course
The Level 2 CCF is awarded by 1st4sport qualifications and has been developed in partnership with the FA. It is a vocational qualification that provides candidates with an opportunity to study and be assessed for both practical and theoretical aspects of coaching football.

Course Prerequisites
Candidates will be required to:
– be at least 16 years of age;
– hold a valid 1st4sport Level 1 CCF or higher which includes a current FA Emergency Aid Award and a current FA Safeguarding Children in Football workshop certificate;
– or be a qualified teacher with QTS status, together with the completion of the FA Age Appropriate Coaching Introductory Module.

Course Aims
To provide candidates who have an ongoing involvement in football with an introduction to the processes and principles of coaching football to adults and children.

The certificate offers an opportunity for potential football coaches to be supported in developing the knowledge of how to effectively plan, conduct and evaluate football coaching sessions.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the L2CCF, candidates will be able to:
– establish an effective, fair and equitable coaching environment;
– establish a safe coaching environment;
– review participants’ needs and establish goals for coaching sessions;
– produce plans for sessions that support participants’ development;
– plan for the evaluation of sessions;
– prepare participants for coaching sessions;
– establish and maintain working relationships with participants and others;
– deliver coaching sessions;
– develop participants’ performance;
– conclude sessions;
– evaluate participants; performance and the effectiveness of sessions;
– monitor personal coaching practice.

Course Format
The Level 2 CCF comprises five units of assessment as follows:
1. Coaching Principles and Ethics
2. Plan Coaching Sessions
3. Conduct Coaching Sessions
4. Review Coaching Sessions
5. Coaching Football

Achievement of the qualification is normally via a combination of the following phases:
– attendance at an induction event that will provide an introduction to the qualification and ongoing support throughout the programme of training and home study, to ensure an understanding of the requirements of the qualification. In addition candidates will receive support and guidance on accessing learning resources that support the development of knowledge;
– a programme of training, during which practical and technical information will be provided enabling candidates to fulfill the role. A series of short internal assessments of coaching football sessions will be undertaken during the course;
– achievement of knowledge via a structured programme of learning and/or home study and/or distance learning modules;
– further development of the role of the coach, via practical coaching practice over a period of time, and the development of a coaching log;
– an independent assessment of practical coaching.

At the conclusion of the programme of training and assessment, all candidates will be provided with an action plan to support their further development.
