Course Prerequisites
Candidates are required to:
– be at least 16 years of age;
– hold as a minimum a current Emergency Aid Certificate ;
– have attended the FA Safeguarding Children in Football Workshop.
The above pre-requisites, for those who do not already hold the appropriate evidence, will be provided as part of the learning programme.
Course Aims
To provide candidates with an introduction to offering the principles/practice of safe, ethical and effective management and coaching of football to adults and young people, as an assistant normally under the supervision of a Level 2 qualified coach.
The certificate offers an opportunity for aspiring football coaches to be supported in developing their knowledge of how to effectively coach a local club or school team
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the L1CCF, candidates will be able to:
– demonstrate an ability to safely organise and supervise football activities, including group coaching and using pre-planned football coaching activity sessions;
– promote and establish working relationships and high standards of behaviour with players, coaches, parents and officials in the overall development of football;
– demonstrate an understanding of:
– generic coaching skill
– football specific coaching skills
– coach and performer/player development
– good practice in club management and coaching
– health and safety
– working with parents
– attitudes and ethics
– the basic Laws of Association Football
– demonstrate an ability to identify and adapt football activities and sessions for a variety of different age groups;
- demonstrate an awareness of further personal development opportunities in football, including coaching, sports therapy, administration and officiating.
Course Format
The Level 1 CCF comprises four units of assessment as follows:
1. Introduction to Safe and Ethical Coaching
2. Prepare to Deliver Coaching Activities
3. Deliver and Review Coaching Activities
4. Coaching Football
Achievement of the qualification is normally via a combination of the following phases:
– completion of an induction process that will provide an introduction to the qualification and guidance on meeting the pre-requisites of the qualification, if required. In addition, candidates will receive support and guidance on accessing learning resources that support the development of their knowledge’
– a programme of training, during which candidates will be provided with the predominantly practical and technical information required to enable them to fulfill the role. They will undertake at least one internal assessment of their coaching of football;
– achievement of knowledge via a structured programme of learning and/or home study and/or distance learning modules;
– an independent assessment of their practical coaching and an aspect of the knowledge and understanding of the outcomes of the qualification.
At the conclusion of the programme of training and assessment, all candidates will be action-planned to support their further development.
