Introduction to the Course
The Level 1 Goalkeeping Coaching Award is awarded by FA Learning. It is a coaching award that provides candidates with an opportunity to study and be assessed for both practical and theoretical aspects of coaching goalkeepers.
Course Prerequisites
Candidates are required to:
– be at least 16 years of age
– hold as a minimum a current Emergency Aid Certificate
– have attended the FA Safeguarding Children in Football Workshop
The above prerequisites, for those who do not already hold the appropriate evidence, will be provided as part of the learning programme.
Course Aims
To provide candidates with an introduction to offering the principles/practice of safe, ethical and effective management and coaching of the basic ‘technical’ aspects of goalkeeping.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the award, candidates will be able to:
– coach basic individual techniques;
– understand the coaching process and how to develop and improve the goalkeepers; technique;
– plan and prepare progressive technical practices;
– maintain the health and safety of the players and other coaches;
– maintain the high standards of conduct to promote association football.
Course Format
Achievement of the award is normally via a combination of the following phases:
– completion of an induction process
– a programme of training, during which practical and technical information will be provided in order to fulfill the role.
– a structured programme of learning and/or home study modules
– observation of the delivery of a coaching session by an independent assessor and completion of a knowledge assessment.
