In the bright sunshine of Saturday evening the Jersey senior side showed their class by out performing an England Amateur XI winning 2-0. The England Amateur XI came to Jersey for a pre tournament warm up game before they jet off to Italy to take part in the UEFA Regions Cup.

The purpose of the visit was to give the England Amateur players their first experience of pulling on the England shirt after qualifying to represent England in the UEFA Regions Cup as players of the Southern Amateur League.

The first goal came just four minutes into the game when a sloppy back pass gifted Paul Aitkin the chance to put Jersey ahead which he duly took.

England were never allowed to settle as Jersey continued to press for a second which came just fifteen minutes latter as pressure from Steve McCarter forced the England keeper into an error. McCarter latched onto the loose ball from the keeper’s miss-kick and doubled the Jersey lead.

Jersey then defended their lead well with Andrew Bird when called into action displaying his quality in goal.

In the second half Jersey continued to take the game to the England players. Both Barry Beatson and Jack Boyle came close to adding to score line, with Boyle hitting the post twice.

The game ended with Jersey taking an impressive victory 2-0.

The officials and players of Jersey FA would like to wish the England Amateur all the best in the UEFA Regions Cup this coming October.
