There were mixed fortunes for the Jersey teams on day one of the Island Games. The men got off to a winning start after an early goal after just nine minutes from Mark Lucas against Saarema. They then held on for the rest of the match to win 1-0 to go second in group 'C' on goal difference behind Rhodes who beat the Isle of Wight 2-0.
The Women's had a baptism of fire conceding two goals in the first half and further three in the second half before Jodie Botteril pulled one back in the 90th minute. They lost their opening game to Gotland which leaves them joint bottom of the table with Saarema.
Today the men face Rhodes and the Women have a chance of some points against Saarema.
