Twenty-two Year 11 students from Haute Vallee Secondary School recently completed the FA Junior Football Organisers Award. The course concluded on 12th June with a mini-soccer festival being held at the School for around 160 year 7 children.
Jersey FA Football Development Manager Brian Oliver said "the festival was brilliant and the young leaders deserve so much praise for the way in which they worked together to ensure all the children who participated had a fun and enjoyable experience.
"As part of the JFO course, the students were provided with the challenging task of organising a mini-soccer festival for around 80 boys and 80 girls over a two hour period.
"Following a good deal of planning and preparation, the students organised the event taking on roles as administrators, timekeepers, coaches, and referees. They marked out eight mini pitches, got the children into teams, provided them with a warm up, organised the fixtures, refereed the games, kept the scores and provided a closing ceremony.
"Many congratulations to every one of the young leaders and to PE teacher Russell Le Feuvre for providing such a high level of support.
"The JFO is part of our Young Leadership and Volunteering Programme designed to increase the potential for young people to participate in
volunteering and leadership through football. In partnership with the School we intend to build on this course to link some of the students into our FA Charter Standard Clubs via the Step into Sport Programme".
