Jersey Football Combination RESPECT Programme

5:02 PM, Wednesday, 01 September 10. RESPECT

The Jersey Football Combination held an information meeting in the Don Theatre at Fort Regent recently to raise awareness of the RESPECT programme which is being introduced by the League this season.

A presentation (see attached in related documents) followed by a question/answer session was provided by JFC President, Tim Darwin, Jersey FA Chief Executive Paul Creeden, JFC Delegate Bob Lawrence and Jersey FA Referee Development Officer Andy Cox.

The RESPECT programme includes four practical steps to improve behaviour - on the pitch and on the sidelines:

Step 1: Codes of Conduct
Step 2: Manage the match day environment
Step 3: Captain taking responsibility
Step 4: Referee managing the game

The core objectives of the Respect programme nationally include:

– At all levels, football is played in a fair, safe and enjoyable environment - for players, officials and supporters.
– Awareness and understanding of RESPECT is strong, right across the football family and public.
– On-field player conduct consistently reflects the principles of RESPECT - reflected in declining number of dissent cautions, player and manager misconduct.
– There is 'zero-tolerance' of abuse of or assault on referees - young people and adults are attracted to becoming a referee and existing referees are retained.
– Professional Leagues, Clubs and players lead by example in promoting RESPECT.
