Navy FA leave it late to snatch victory at Springfield Stadium
Jersey FA Men v Navy FA Match Report
Jersey FA Senior men were in action on Saturday 18th March in our final game of the day. Manager Martin Cassidy named an experienced squad, with the likes of James Scott, Chris Andrews and Rob Mc'Bay all getting call ups to the senior squad. The game kicked off at a high tempo, with some excellent football on display from both teams. The crowd did not have to wait long for the first incident, Navy striker Dodd was brought down in the box. Todd stepped up only to see his penalty saved by the Jersey Number 1 Euan Van Der Vliet. Moments later Todd was down in the box again only to see his claim waved away by the referee. Jerseys first chance came through Lester. An in-swinging free-kick from James Scott came to Lester whose shot crashed off the crossbar. The St. Pauls man did not have to wait long for his next chance as some excellent build up play with his club team mate Craig Russell led to Lester's strike finding the back of the net to give Jersey the lead. The first half continued with both teams enjoying spells on the front foot but it was Jersey who dominated, Boyle and Lester combining only to see their effort saved by Emmerson in the Navy goal.
The second half started with Jersey looking to double their lead, efforts from Calvin Weir and Michael Weir sailed just wide of the Navy goal. As the second half came to an end the Navy FA substitution Hebditch made his mark pouncing on a loose ball in the box to give the Navy an equalizer. In the final moment of the game the Navy's high pressure was rewarded, substitute Hebditch again. Final score 2-1.
