Match Report Jersey FA v Essex and Suffolk Border League
Jersey FA lined up for their final game before next weeks Hepburn's 101st Muratti Vase Final on the 13th of May.
Jersey started the brighter of the two teams in a match of few chances. Ben Gallichan came into the team, and made an immediate impact, being brought down on the edge of the area. Jersey's Jack Boyle took the corresponding free kick only to see his low swerving shot drift inches wide of the post. Essex fought their way back into the first half, first with a long range effort from the full back Spingett and in the following attack Palmer tried to slip in Cripps but over hit the pass. Palmer again had a golden opportunity to open the scoring but his shot was blocked by a sliding Stuart Andre. With 10 minutes left of the first half Essex won a corner. Springett's low driven cross found its way to Palmer at the edge of the 6 yard box; who touched it back to Lodge who blasted it in off the underside of the bar to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at the break.
Jersey came out in the second half looking for that elusive goal, Gallichan was again involved, a cross from substitute Micheal Weir found Gallichan on the edge of the box. Gallichan went for a spectacular bicycle kick only to see his effort go just wide of the post. Essex again fought their way back into the game, Cripps with a glancing header across Euan van Der Vliet's goal. Jersey threatened late on but the only clear cut chance came through some excellent build up play on the edge of the box Miley found his way through the Essex defense but the Essex keeper Whymark smothered his shot.
Final score 1-0 to Essex & Suffolk Border League.
