Jersey FA Girls Football Month

Jersey FA is supporting The FA’s Girl’s football Week initiative that is being delivered from November 6th – 12th by delivering a Jersey FA Girl’s Football Month from November 3rd – 25th.

After a successful 2016 that saw over 80,000 participants take part in over 1,000 events, 2017 marks the 6th year of the nationwide participation initiative of the FA’s Girl’s Football Week with the goal of engaging more girls and women to participate in football.

Taking place from Monday 6 to Sunday 12 November 2017, FA Girls’ Football Week is one of a number of initiatives delivered by The FA as part of its Gameplan for Growth which a pledge to double participation of women and girls in football by 2020.

Jersey FA Community Coach (Girls) Lucy Even is leading the Jersey FA’s initiative of Girls Football Month. This is the first time the Jersey FA has decided to expand Girls Football Week into a month due to amount of activity and opportunities we now have in Jersey for Girls football. See below a list of activity and opportunities that will be delivered this Jersey FA Girls Football Month –

All Girls In curricular P.E Sessions –

Jersey FA Community Coaches Lucy Even and Daniel Seviour will be continuing their weekly coaching sessions within Primary Schools and delivering in-curricular PE sessions and Girls Lunch Time Clubs. On a weekly basis our Community Coaches see an average of 260 girls aged 5 – 11 participating in football.

Girls After School Skill Sessions –

Every Wednesday throughout the school term the Jersey FA deliver an all girls after school session that is organised and delivered by qualified female coaches with 28 girls currently signed up. Sessions run from 4-5pm and are charged at £5 per session, to sign up payment is either paid by block booking at the start or by paying for the remaining sessions when signing up throughout the term. A new initiative being held this month is ‘Bring A Friend’ for all the girls already signed up to the Skill Sessions.

Girls Friday Free Fun Nights –

So far this year the Jersey FA has delivered 9 Free Fun Nights for girls aged 5 – 12. This is a great opportunity for girls of all abilities to come and give football a try in a fun learning controlled environment where if they enjoy it they are then give opportunity letters to hopefully see them participate more in football throughout the year. An average of 30 – 40 girls attend each Free Fun Night which is supported by Female players from the Jersey FA Senior Women’s, Girls Player Development Centre and Local Clubs.

Primary School Festival –

On the 22nd of November working in partnership with the Jersey Primary Schools Association the Jersey FA will be hosting a Girls year 5/6 Primary School festival at Springfield Stadium from 1pm – 3pm. This festival will host 24 teams from 17 primary schools across the island with a total of 240 girls participating in football festival.  The festival will be supported by female Highlands College Students.

Local Club& Island Representative Football –

Over the past 2 years we have seen 4 local clubs start up opportunities for girls aged 5 – 13 to get involved in football at JTC Jersey Wanderers, St Peters FC, St Pauls FC. Within the league structure in Jersey there is also Rozel Rovers Girls u14s who compete in the mixed leagues as well as 4 Senior Womens Teams (Grouville, JTC Jersey Wanderers, St Lawrence & St Peter) that compete in the Ladies Combination League.

Jersey FA Girls Community Development Centre-

Jersey FA Girls Community Development Centre is an alternative option for the players who have not been successful for a place in the Player Development Centre and an opportunity for any Girls who are interested in participating in football to sign up for.  The Community Development Centre offers an 11 week programme running from January 8th – March 26th at a price of £55 (£% per session) for girls in school years 7 – 10 as an opportunity to keep them involved within football. The programme will include weekly training sessions delivered by qualified female coaches at Springfield Stadium 3G, potential fixtures against local clubs and PDC teams. The sessions are based around fun and enjoyment which will be implemented by the FAs DNA, Jersey FAs DNA and philosophy.

Jersey FA Women’s v Sheffield United Ladies Mascot Competition –

The Girls Football Month will finish with a fixture for the Jersey FA Senior Womens team who are hosting Sheffield United Ladies on Saturday 25th November with a 4.30pm kick off. We will be hoping to see many female supporters at the fixture and the Jersey FA will also be giving an opportunity for 22 girls to be mascots for the players. Throughout the Girls Football Month there will be over 700 Girls/Women participating in football with a lot more across the island being given more information on how girls/women can get involved in football through the Jersey FA or locally within football clubs.
