Joe Smith
The upcoming JFA Referee Course on September 7th is postponed due to lack of applicants.
"Course Postponed but you can still register interest!"

The Jersey Football Association, through its Referees Committee, will be holding the first part of a ‘Basic Training Course for Referees’ has been postponed but you can still register interest.

"The Course BREAKDOWN"

The Friday session (6.30pm – 9.30pm) will be held in the Meeting Room on the top floor of Springfield Stadium, with the Saturday and Sunday sessions (9.30am – 4.30pm) at St.Peters Primary School. This part of the Course will deal primarily with ensuring a sound knowledge of the Laws of the Game and their practical application, with as much time as possible spent outside on a pitch. The Laws of the Game can be found on-line via the F.A. website to facilitate some vital pre-course study. The second part of the Course consists of refereeing five games and being an assistant on a sixth, and it is completed by a Knowledge of the Laws test paper.

"Climb the Ladder"
Anybody over the age of 14 can participate, and on successful completion they will become either a Youth Referee (14 – 16 yrs) or a Junior Referee (16+). Via experience, assessors reports and club marks promotion can be earnt to Levels 6 (County Referee) and 5 (Senior County Referee). A new level, 4i, has been created in recent years to encourage Level 5’s to progress. They must complete an FA fitness test, have consistently positive assessments and club marks, and must also be contributing off the field of play, as tutors/trainers, mentors and assessors.

"What does the course entail and how much can I earn?"

There will be a Course Fee of  £60, and all referees have to register annually with the FA via their local County FA (currently £20). At some time recruits over 16 will need to attend a Safeguarding Children Workshop, with under 16’s able to complete an on-line programme. You will also need to undergo a C.R.B. check, which again applies to all match officials over 16. With hopefully some kit to be purchased, at an appropriate time, there are obvious costs involved. However referees do earn match fees whenever they officiate:

  • Level 9 Trainee Referee £16.50
  • Level 8 £17.50 Youth Referee
  • Level 7 £23.00 or whenever you are an assistant
  • Level 6 and £24.00
  • Level 5 £27.00
  • Level 4i’s £28.00.

With the cooperation of the Jersey Football Combination, whose games you’ll officiate in, young officials in full-time education can be paid monthly. Senior referees are currently paid through two half-season payments.

If you wish to secure a place on the Course, please complete the attached Jersey FA Course Application Form and return it with the Course Fee to the Jersey FA office at Springfield Stadium top floor as soon as possible. If you have any questions, or need more information, please feel free to get in touch with one of the tutors whose details are listed below.
