"Jersey FA U13's to Face Europe's Best"
Jersey FA Link Asset Service Centre of Excellence u13’s will expand their development programme this month after being invited to participate in the “Stevie Packer International Festival” at Liverpool FC Academy in Kirby between Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July. The International festival will consist of a number of teams from across Europe including;
• Hertha Berlin FC (Germany)
• Liverpool FC (England)
• Burnley FC (England)
• Motherwell FC (Scotland)
• Norwegian Soccer Academy (Norway)
• Queens Park FC (Scotland)
Jersey FA Football Development Manager Brian Oliver said; “The invitation came after a successful trip to Liverpool FC's Academy in May with our u12s. Since then we have been in communication with officials from Liverpool. We have a number of links with professional clubs across the UK and we are pleased we have been able to develop our link with Liverpool FC. An invitation of to such a prestigious event is a testament to the high standards displayed by the Centre on and off the pitch.”
The u12-u13 festival is honour of Stephen Packer who joined Liverpool Academy at the age of 6 having attended the Liverpool Development Centre. He immediately caught the eye of LFC academy coaches and progressed through u7 & u8 age groups before signing with LFC academy in April 2012.
Stephen fell ill shortly before the 2012 season and sadly died on November 25th of that year. Stephens’s legacy at Liverpool Football Club may be different to other legends that were given their chance to fulfil their potential but his influence is no less due to the courage and strength he displayed in the face of his illness.
