"Match Report: Jersey FA v Upton Park FC"
Jersey FA men continued their winning ways on Wednesday night with a 1-0 win over Upton Park FC. Jersey came into the game after a very positive result against the Navy FA earlier in the month. Senior men’s Manger Cassidy was away, which left First Team Coach Paddy O’Toole and Michael Hale to name a relatively unchanged squad; Cardwell and Trotter were ruled out through injury and were replaced by St. Pauls FC attacking duo Lester and Hinds.
Jersey FA started well and the home crowd did not have to wait long for the first goal of the game. A in-swinging cross from Jack Cannon found the head of a diving Craig Russell, who guided the ball into the bottom of the net.
Upton Park FC fought their way back into the half their best chance falling to Charlie Sheringham whose effort was saved by the feet of Van Der Vliet. Jersey FA spurred a variety of chances in the first half; Boyle found himself one on one but his effort just sailed over the bar. Boyle had a second opportunity Calvin Weir’s smart cut-back found Boyle on the edge of the 6 yard box but Upton Park FC goalkeeper Francis, pulled off a spectacular save to keep the score 1-0 at the break.
The second half started slower and chances for both teams we few and far between the chance of the half fell to substitute Lester. Boyle slipped a weighted pass through the middle putting Lester one on one with keeper, his effort just rolled wide of the post.
The game finished 1-0 as Jersey FA continue to there preparations for the 102nd Hepburns Insurance Muratti Vase Final. Jersey FA men’s next game will be against Essex and Boarder League on the 28th of April at 4.30pm, Springfield Stadium.
