2020 Muratti and inter-insular fixtures postponed due to Coronavirus guidance

The 2020 Muratti weekend of football is postponed, following advice from the Government of Jersey on restricting large public gatherings.

The 2020 Muratti weekend of football has been postponed, following advice from the Government of Jersey on restricting large public gatherings to limit the spread of Coronavirus.

The four matches that had been due to be played between 15-17 May at Springfield will be rearranged in due course.

All tickets already purchased for the Close Finance Men’s Muratti Vase Final, which will see Jersey host either Alderney or Guernsey, will be valid for the yet to be announced new date.

Jersey FA CEO Jean-Luc Desbois said: “Whilst it’s clearly disappointing to be postponing this exciting weekend of inter-island football, it is absolutely the right decision in light of the updated medical advice regarding large events and mass gatherings.

“We’ve seen a positive start to ticket sales for the men’s match over the past few weeks and we’re keen to reassure everyone with a ticket that it will be valid for the rearranged game.

“We’ll continue to review guidance over the coming weeks and will stay in regular dialogue with our colleagues in Guernsey and Alderney who will also be looking to reschedule the men’s Semi-Final. We remain committed to getting all these games played.”

The Ambassadeur Bowl fixture, between Guernsey’s Under 21s and Jersey’s Under 21s, scheduled for 26 April has also been postponed.

Separately, the JFA has also confirmed the cancellation of the Jacksons International Trophy tournament, which was planned for 21-27 May 2020. Involving eight teams from across Europe, it has been decided not to reschedule this tournament for later this year to allow for a potential resumption of the domestic JFA Combination season and completion of Jersey Bulls fixtures once Coronavirus restrictions are lifted.
