Jersey FA Combination League Update

Local league remains committed, at this stage, to getting fixtures rescheduled and played before next season.

JFA Combination League Statement - 25.03.2020

Dear clubs, players, officials and everyone linked to the Jersey FA Combination League and its teams,

While football is understandably not high up the priority list for most people during the current coronavirus outbreak, you may have seen a number of UK leagues have been holding meetings to discuss potential options for the eventual season resumption. Some other leagues are investigating options including:

  • Voiding their seasons
  • Playing the remaining fixtures at a later date
  • Using an average points per game score to decide divisions
  • Cancelling promotion and relegation
  • Freezing the season, with current league placings to stand as final
  • Combining the 19-20 and 20-21 seasons into one season

The JFA Board believes it is too early to be making such decisions for our local competitions. It is unclear how long grassroots football will be suspended, and therefore there is little value in making a call right now. Most of our teams have very few, albeit important, fixtures remaining. The FA and Jersey FA rules allow for us to play long into the summer months if required and we remain committed, at this stage, to getting fixtures rescheduled and played before next season.

This Thursday’s Competitions Committee meeting for club delegates has been cancelled. We will review, in three weeks’ time, whether it is appropriate to hold April’s meeting and will be in contact then.

The traditional end-of-season awards dinner is likely to be later in the year than normal. The JFA intends to use the awards dinner to distribute prize money and we will be looking at a more cost effective set-up in order to encourage all clubs to take a table.

Clubs are reminded that the Jersey FA has advised all grassroots football in the island is postponed until further notice. This includes all JFA Combination league and cup fixtures, friendly matches and training. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by coronavirus in these remarkable times.

Whilst the JFA offices will remain closed until further notice, our staff will continue to work from home and are available to support our clubs and members. Keep well.
