Refereeing In Jersey

Across the U.K., there are over 30,000+ registered referees, ranging from those just setting out in the game to individuals who have progressed to officiating in the FA Premier League and Football League.

However, in recent seasons, we have seen a decline in the number of active Referees in Jersey. This is perhaps the biggest underlying threat to the game locally and it is paramount that this decline is reversed. As part of the Jersey FA Business Plan 2015-19, a four year target to have 48 registered referees has been set in order to provide 100% coverage of all games on the Island.

To do this our key focus will be around;

  • Retention of current referees.
  • Improving player discipline.
  • Appointing a Referee Development Officer.
  • Promotion of Referee Courses.
  • Creation of the Referee Development Centre

Referees' play an integral role in ensuring all participants enjoy their match day experience, helping create a competitive, fair, safe and enjoyable playing environment. The Jersey FA Referees' Committee provides support throughout a Referee's career, from organising training courses, approving promotions and providing support through the mentoring, assessment and feedback process.
