Chad Morris and Rozel Rovers Lead the Way in U11s Girls Football
We met with experienced coach Chad Morris, a coach of 12 years who has put together an all-girls under 12s to compete in the under 11s White group this coming season. This team will be the only entirely under 11s girls team competing in their age bracket this season. Chad Morris's Under 11s team have been training together for over two years, as Morris told us how this team came about;
"The team came about through the girls desire to play after they left primary school 9 of the 12 played together at FCJ, we have been training together for over two years. This year will see them play against boys and mixed teams, which will really help their development."
"Our first game against boys was in this year’s St. Clements World Mini Soccer Tournament. Our girls played really well and enjoyed playing against the boys. This season will provide the girls with valuable playing experience, by the end of the season we will look to take the girls over to England to compete in a youth competition with support of the sponsor of Davis & Ingram."
What would you recommend for people looking into starting girls teams?
"Ideally you’re better off getting a primary school team and meeting with your local club, all it takes is one enthusiastic parent and you can offer a team of girl’s football for an entire season."
What does the future hold for your Rozel Girls?
"With the support from our sponsors Davis & Ingram and the Jersey FA we want to continue to develop this squad of girls. Next year the girls will qualify for the Jersey FA Player Development Centre, if they get in they will be receiving up to 4 hours of coaching a week with a game every weekend."
