"Jersey FA u18's retain u18 Junior Muratti Vase Final"

Jersey FA u18’s travelled to Northfield in Guernsey on Sunday the 6th of May for the re-scheduled Junior Muratti Final.

Our u18 squad had prepared well for this important fixture with weekly coaching sessions at Springfield Stadium supplemented by a games programme with included competitive fixtures against Norfolk FA u18’s, Fulham FC Academy u16’s, Northern Ireland Schools FA u18’s and Southampton FC Academy u16’s this season.

With the home advantage, Guernsey FA started the more positively, coming close to opening the scoring within the first five minutes through Jarod Carrington, Jersey goalkeeper Danny Birrell saved well to deny Guernsey an early opener. Jersey's first chance of the game came through midfielder Max Rivers, his spectacular effort was saved well by Guernsey's goalkeeper Lorcan Smith.

Both teams continued to create chances throughout the first half, but it was Jersey who struck first on 40 minutes, winger Jake Syvert pounced on a loose ball to give the visitors a well deserved 1-0 lead at half time.

The green and whites were awarded a penalty for a handball early in the second half to level the scoreline, Jersey goalkeeper Danny Birrell brilliantly saved the initial shot with the rebound tucked away by Guernsey’s Zac Felbabel.

With the game in the balance Jersey's youngsters fought their way back into the game and on 74 minutes their hard work was rewarded through substitute Luke Shirley’s excellent finish following very good work from the outstanding Joe Kilshaw. Jersey quickly doubled their lead, through Centre Back Brad Le Mercier, who was on the end of a free kick to poke home Jersey’s third of the match.

The final score 3-1 to Jersey FA u18’s.
