Match report: Jersey FA u16 v Guernsey FA u16s
With the postponement of the U18 Muratti earlier this month, Saturday the 17th of March witnessed the first Muratti of the 2017/18 Season; the Nigel Gavey U16 Muratti Final. A total 240 fans filled the grandstand at Springfield Stadium as both teams took to the field.
The match kicked off in the typically high tempo Muratti tradition, Guernsey FA kicked off and Jersey took no time in regaining possession. Jersey’s quick start to the game meant that spectators did not have to wait long for the first effort of the game. A well worked set play from a corner that ended with a great effort from Jersey’s number 9, Ryan Marcinko.
Jersey’s quick start to the game was rewarded on the 7th minute. Boarer showed some quick feet to get to the by-line and cut the ball back to James Carr who opened the scoring for the home side. The home crowd did not have to wait long for another goal, 6 minutes later Marcinko right footed effort from18 yard’s out found the bottom left hand corner.
Guernsey FA fought their way back into the first half, Le Lacheur close range header hitting the outside of the post. In the 22nd minute Guernsey FA’s hard work paid off as Maginnis pulled one back for the visitors. The score at the break was 2-1 to Jersey FA u16.
The second half started much as the first with Jersey FA coming out strongly looking to put the game to best. Jersey created a number of chance’s it wasn’t until the 71st minute until the first shot on target of the second half was recorded another well worked corner saw the ball ricocheted around the box Guernsey FA cleared the ball off the line twice as the game ended 2-1 to Jersey FA u16’s.
