Jersey boss Cassidy selects squad ahead of Inter-League Cup clash

Martin Cassidy announces his 16-strong squad for the quarter-final match against the Southern Amateur League.

Jersey manager Martin Cassidy has included players from five local clubs in his squad for the upcoming FA Inter-League Cup quarter final.

The side representing the JFA Combination host the Southern Amateur League at Springfield on Saturday 29th February 2020 (2pm kick off).

Logan McGhee, who has netted 13 times in his 17 matches for Jacksons Premiership leaders JTC Jersey Wanderers this season, earns his first call up. Arthur Illingworth, who scored in the previous round, and the JFA Combination League's top scorer Jake Prince are also both included.

"I'm happy to be able to pick such a strong squad again to give us the best possible chance of progressing further in this exciting competition," said Cassidy.

"We're pleased to welcome Logan into the squad – he has earned it and been in good form in front of goal for Wanderers. This is one of the biggest matches we've hosted in the island for some time against a very good team and we're keen to get a big crowd to Springfield to help push the players into the semis.

"I like the balance of the squad and the players are looking to go all the way. We have a really good chance of getting to the final and winning this competition for only the second time in our history.”

Jersey have already beaten the Somerset County League and the Amateur Football Combination to make it through to the last eight. The eventual competition winners go on to represent England in the Uefa Regions' Cup, as Jersey did back in 2013 when they travelled to San Marino to proudly wear the Three Lions.

Entry to Springfield for the game will be FREE.
