Three new members appointed to the Jersey FA board ahead of 2020-21 season

David Brookland, Nikki Holmes and Jon Welsh join the JFA board as three members step down.

The Jersey Football Association is pleased to confirm the appointment of three new board members, each with vast experience in sports governance and management.
  • David Brookland first joined the Jersey FA in 2006 as treasurer and went on to become the organisation’s Financial Director, a position he held until 2019. He was also the JFA CEO for a twelve-month period from 2012-2013. He was involved in the setting up of Aldershot Town in 1992, the football club which formed to replace Aldershot which had gone into liquidation earlier that year and dropped out of the football league. David has worked in the finance industry in Jersey, Canada & London over a 30-year period.
  • Nicola (Nikki) Holmes brings a wealth of experience in sports governance, having previously been a Club Development Officer with the Government of Jersey. She was the Board Secretary for the Jersey Cricket Board from 2004 to 2017 and was their Welfare Officer during that period. Nikki is a qualified teacher and is currently working with the Safeguarding Partnership Board as an inter-agency trainer.
  • Jonathan (Jon) Welsh is a well-known face in the local football community. Following a playing career with St Peter and First Tower Utd, he has been a committee member at St Peter FC since 1998 and more recently has become vice president of the club. Jon was the Jersey FA’s U18 manager between 2000 and 2006, men’s manager in 2012 and was chair of the Junior League Committee between 2006 and 2017. Jon is the owner of C.I. Engravers.

“We’re pleased to have three such well-respected and highly-regarded members of the community joining the board,” said Jersey FA president Bradley Vowden. “They all have real knowledge of sports governance and I’m sure will bring a fresh take on the way the game is run in the island.”

The trio replace Gary Tumelty, Tom Lovell and Brian McCarthy, who have all stepped down from the JFA Board due to other commitments. David Kennedy, who recently replaced Jean-Luc Desbois as CEO also automatically assumes his position on the board.

“We’d like to thank Gary, Tom, Brian and Jean-Luc for their input and hard work whilst on the board,” added Bradley Vowden. “They’ve all played a key role in moving football forward in the island and we wish them well for the future.”
