2019-20 Inter-Insular Matches Cancelled

The Channel Island Inter-Insular Football Committee cancels all remaining 2019-20 "Muratti" matches that had yet to be played

Press Release from the Channel Island Inter-Insular Football Committee

Following the previous decision taken on 13th March to postpone the Muratti Vase competition, the Channel Island Inter-Insular Football Committee has now taken the decision to cancel all the remaining 2019/20 matches that had yet to be played as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Guernsey FA Chief Executive, and Inter-Insular Committee Secretary, Gary Roberts, commented that:

“Whilst this decision has not been taken lightly, the Inter-Insular Committee decided that the continuing travel restrictions, combined with the on-going uncertainty and risk associated with COVID-19, left no viable alternative but to confirm the cancellation of those matches yet to be played. The Committee understands the tradition and history attached to these matches and there is a unified commitment to working together to see these fixtures return in the 2020/21 season. However, at the same time there is recognition of the social responsibility to place the health and well-being of the local communities at the forefront of our decision making, and the Committee will continue to be led by government guidance before confirming the return of these fixtures.”

Jersey FA, and Inter-Insular Committee, President, Bradley Vowden added:

“As a Committee we are genuinely disappointed not to be able to conclude this year’s Muratti fixtures, especially with it coinciding with Alderneys Centenary Year and our 75th Liberation Anniversary. However, the scheduled dates for next year’s Muratti weekend are planned for 15th & 16th May in Jersey subject to football and travel being permitted, and we sincerely hope that these will go ahead as planned. We would also like to thank the sponsors of the various Muratti matches, including Close Finance CI and the Hotel Ambassadeur for their ongoing support and patience.”
