Jersey FA, MIND Jersey and Disability Learning Football Unite for World Mental Health Day
One in four people will experience a mental health issue in any year.
People who suffer with mental health problems should have access to the same publicised and high-level activities, whether that’s in healthcare, employment, arts and sport as anyone else. It is our belief that all clients with mental health conditions will benefit from the provision of sports projects specifically designed to cater for them.
World Mental Health Day is on Sunday 10 October and MIND would like to raise awareness to this occasion by providing a football session to promote MINDS new focus in physical activity for our service users, and our link with both the Jersey FA and Jersey’s Learning Disability team.
The day itself will consist of multiple games for the Jersey FA, who will be holding their Walking Football League competition. Between the times of 10.30am and 11.30am, the Jersey FA Walking Football League will be playing games on three quarters of Springfield Stadium pitch, and a fourth pitch will be available for anyone within the community over the age of 16 who would like to take part. To assist new participants, players from MIND and the Jersey Learning Disability Team will kick things off with a short game so everyone can establish the rules of walking football, then everyone will be added to a team to continue the action.
Staff from MIND will be available for a meet and greet chat to discuss how people can be involved with their other new initiatives in sport. We are keen to emphasise this is an event to raise awareness in the community with regard to what MIND Jersey provide and to the support people can gain access to through the organisations various channels.
The event is in conjunction with the Jersey FA as both charities strongly wish to support the wellbeing of Islanders through sport. If you would love to be involved with MIND’s new initiatives in sport, please pop along. We are accepting ages above 16 to be involved in the sports and all that is required is a spare pair of trainers and your engaging selves. We look forward to meeting anyone that wishes to take part.
