Jersey Enters the World Cup
The Jersey FA is delighted to announce it will compete in the Walking Football World Cup which takes place at St George’s Park in August.
Jersey will face football giants such as Spain, Brazil, and England and will no doubt go up against some familiar faces in world football as each nation is allowed to field three ex-professional players.
Jersey FA CEO David Kennedy said, "This is a huge opportunity for us but one we can really look forward to. The standard of football being played in our Santander Walking Football League has improved each year and the chance to play in the World Cup has certainly got the players excited. We will aim to select our squad in the next eight weeks in order for give the team ample time to prepare."
Kennedy added, "We would love to hear from anyone who may wish to sponsor the squad as the costs to get us to the competition are quite significant."
Federation of International Walking Football Associations CEO Paul Carr said, "We look forward to welcoming Jersey to this inaugural Walking Football World Cup, being held at the prestigious St Georges Park in England. We hope all games will be streamed live to maximise exposure for this wonderful sport that provides fun, friendship and fitness to the many thousands who are playing in the 60+ countries around the world."
